Do I have to update to big Sur before updating to Monterrey?

Currently running Catalina 10.15.7 on 27inch iMac (2020). Do I gave to update to Big Sur before I can update to Monterrey?

Also, if I order a new iMac 27inch, what operating system comes pre-installed?

Thanks for any help

No, you do not have to update to Big Sur before updating to Monterey. If Big Sur is showing up in your system preferences, you can also download macOS Monterey from the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/macos-monterey/id1576738294?mt=12

I think the iMac will ship from Apple with Monterey. Intel Macs ship from Costco with Catalina often though. I'm not 100% sure though. If it doesn't, you can always upgrade it yourself since it is compatible.
