Rest of Mojave install app impossible to be removed from Trash - several attempt with no result

iMac late 2014 running BigSur.

My ssd is formatted as "container" one drive runs BigSur and the other runs Mojave.

All the information which follows are related the drive with BigSur, not the drive "partition" with Mojave.

I tried to run Mojave into Parallels under BigSur in order to remove the Mojave partition and later replace my old iMAC with a new M1 machine and still being able to have Mojave on it under Parallels.

Installed Parallels in the BigSur drive partition and downloaded Mojave. Mojave started under Parallel. Days later I found Installa OSX Mojave.app (italian version) in the Trash impossible to be emptied. Tried in several ways to remove it from the simplest to the more difficoult. Terminal sudo... etc.. Restart with Recovery and made SOS on the drive. Removed completely Mojave and Parallels. No result. I can move back Installa OSX Mojave.app to Desktop and the Trash is empty. Direkt delete of the file is not permitted. Is I try the track to move the file to an external drive I can only copy it because the original remains on the internal ssd of my Mac in its original position. I fell the install app may be damaged because it is only 5,4 GB. Opened the Installa OSX Mojave.app package and deleted part of it. Now the trash contains only Folder SharedSupport which contains InstallESD.dmg with is impossible to remove from trash.

The OS BigSur runs well in my iMac but I do not like to have something in the Trash which I am not able to remove.

Will a new BigSur install be the final solution ?

Thanks for any suggestion

i think i would try temporarily disabling SIP. boot into recovery by holding "command+R" during startup. once there open terminal by clicking on "utilities" in the menubar and choosing "terminal". then paste in "csrutil disable" without the quotes. enter your admin password if prompted. then restart the mac and try emptying the trash. wether or not it works, make sure to re-enable SIP. boot into recovery again, reopen terminal and paste in "csrutil enable" without the quotes. enter your admin password if prompted and again restart the mac normally.

Disable System Integrity Protection ( SIP)

Disable SIP via recovery mode csrutil and then remove the file in question and then Enable SIP again as soon as done.

Disable System Integrity Protection Temporarily

To disable SIP, do the following:

  1. Restart your computer in Recovery mode.
  2. Launch Terminal from the Utilities menu.
  3. Run the command csrutil disable.
  4. Restart your computer.

Warning

Disable SIP only temporarily to perform necessary tasks, and reenable it as soon as possible. Failure to reenable SIP when you are done testing leaves your computer vulnerable to malicious code.

Enable System Integrity Protection

To reenable SIP, do the following:

  1. Restart your computer in Recovery mode.
  2. Launch Terminal from the Utilities menu.
  3. Run the command csrutil enable.
  4. Restart your computer.

Thanks to you both jeffreythefrog and P. Phillips great help.  It worked.

I spent more than one day with no result.  Before your messages I even moved the file to a new freshly made admin user. You can o it and my user  was cleaned, no file and trash empty. Later I deleted the file in the new user and again was impossible to clean his trash.  Deleted the user with the option not to save his files the system left a folder with the name of the deleted user with the “criminal” file and few other stuff inside.  Moved this file on my desktop and followed your suggestion… WOW !!  Worked immediately.

SIP enabled again.

I was surprised Terminal never asked my admin Password to disable and enable SIP.

Anyway thanks to you it worked.
