Why exactly do you need a different solution?

My first question would be what happened to the screen; how did it come you have none at all?

Why not investigate getting a screen installed? One way or the other, if you no longer want to use the iPad, you have to either replace the screen or use a compatible external monitor.

EDIT: If your Mac has the capability, stream to a TV. That's somewhat "unusual" as the TV's resolution is not going to be nearly as good as a replacement screen or monitor. Across the room is almost impossible for me to use and I have very good far vision.

I was referring to a new screen, not the damaged one.

Your choices are limited. You either continue to use the iPad, attached the damaged screen and use an external monitor or get a new screen.

Cost is important, but irrelevant to the solution. Damaged parts don't respect cost, they break for the rich as well as the not so rich but all have to face the facts of what can be done mechanically. Financial burden is a different matter all together.

Again, your choices are limited, very limited.

Whatever you do it's going to cost money. You said you can't use an external monitor with no screen or an attached damaged screen. That leaves you either using the iPad, or getting a new working screen. I understand that costs $500, but that's not the issue as far as the problem itself is concerned.

As you have described your total situation, if you want a true screen, you're going to have to buy one. As you have described your situation, there are no other solutions. To use and external monitor as you describe, you're back to getting a new screen at $500.

There are no $0.00 cost solutions as you have described your problem. Maybe a used screen from eBay at less than $500, but that's about it. Or contact a local user group or computer repair shop and inquire about a used compatible screen.

Do you have to use only HDMI?
