Why isn't my microphone working when I am on FaceTime on my laptop (Mac air)

FaceTime>video>microphone, select system settings worked. I'm good now.

What is listed under Facetime>Video>Microphone and what is selected under System Preferences>Sound>Input?I played with my Macbook Air and other Apple devices and adding FaceTime to Mic in privacity is not an option. It appears that for Apple apps Mic is allowed by default. I had a FaceTime between my Macbook Air, iPhone and 2013 MacPro and mic/FaceTime worked fine.
Does it work when booted to Safe Mode? It takes minutes to boot. If it works try a normal boot.
Does the mic work for other Apple applications like Siri?
If you go to System Preferences>Sound>Input is the internal mic selected?
Yes and yes. But FaceTime does not show up on apps which are authorized to use the microphone
