How to format solid state drive for external Time Machine

My new MacBook Pro finally came in. (64GB Ram, 8TB Storage), OS 12. I purchased a solid-state external drive for Time Machine. How should I format it?

APFS (Case-sensitive) is the format required, you do this via Disk Utilities loaded from the Launchpad.
