My wife would like an iwatch but her phone is an SE, are they compatible?

The phone I need to use is an SE and does not have ios15 and Apple have told me that it won't upgrade to this so does this mean purchasing a new phone( 6 or above) to get the watch?
no, it has to be newer than iphone6 it has to be iphone6s or newer this include the iphone SE2
How do I know if my SE phone is SE2? Can I upgrade the software to IOS15 and how would I do this? I bought the phone back in April/May this year.
