Is there a combination of buttons on my iPad to click and save?

When changing your wallpaper, you will usually be selecting an image from your saved photos; as such, you will already have the photo used to create the wallpaper used on your device.

iPad does not provide the means with which to save a current wallpaper image to your saved photos.

Using the screenshot feature, you can save the current image that is on screen. This will capture everything in the image - not just the background wallpaper.
