If it's not muted, start up in safe mode and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then restart normally and check Apple TV sound.

No, it's the Apple TV app, but I'm trying to clarify that it's on my MacBook Pro, NOT on an Apple TV. Every time I google the problem, I only get results for the Apple TV, but it's happening on my MacBook Pro.
