Caution iP4 User's Using InvisiShield Screen Protector

The great news is that the below mentioned vendor's are aware of what I am about to share and are fully supporting iP4 User's incurring the issue at no additional charge.

My caution involves those iP4 users having installed the InvisiShield screen protector and attempting to place the iFrogz Luxe case on it, as it will inadvertently lift-up the lower corners of the Shield protector when you slip it into the lower portion of the case. Again, iFrogz is aware of this and are working on a retro fit of this case, issuing Gift Codes for replacement cases when they are available.
Note: according to iFrogz, the issue has to do with the internal felt padding in their Luxe case being a little too thick, creating this issue. I used the iFrogz Luxe with my iP3G for two years and its a Great Case, leading me back to it again with my iPhone.

As for InvisiShield, they honor their life time warranty and replaced my Shield at No Cost to me, and I still highly recommend their "Shield" as the best screen protector on the market.

With that, I have also discovered another iP4 case which was even more devastating to my InvisiShield screen protector, which was the Belkin Grip Edge Premium Leather Shell case. Another great fitting and feel case for the iP4, leaving one to feel like there isn't an attached case. Unfortunately, the CS person I spoke with at Belkin was rather flippant leaving me the impression I can return the case, period, which I will reluctantly do since it is a great case otherwise, but doesn't meet my need for the InvisiShield.

For those wondering why I attempted the purchase of another case... I just feel better having my iP4 protected in a streamlined case despite carrying it in my pocket. Unfortunately, despite explaining my concerns with the AT&T store rep having the Shield on it, he impulsively inserted my iP4 into the Belkin case with reckless abandon, lifting all sides of my InvisiShield protector...

Although creating another nuisance for me in having to replace my Shield again, I must reinforce that AT&T will reimburse both cases without question.

If your still with me... there is one more cautionary note I want to pass along to those of you awaiting the APPLE "bumper" to be shipped and that is, Prior to randomly placing it on your iP4 with the Shield on it, beware that APPLE may not have (nor should they have to take into consideration) considered the potential consequences of those users with Shield protectors on their iP4's when applying these cases or bumpers... so be very careful before placing your bumper case on your iP4. I have submitted this as Feedback to APPLE today as a caution and hopefully they will add this to a Disclosure note to the rest of us. I love my iP4 and have not experienced any of the expressed antenna issues reported... seeing I am still using it without a case and bumper awaiting my iFrogz case

Irish2DaBone-
I had a an Ifrogz luxe case and loved it until I put the Zagg invisible shield screen protector on. Zagg gave me a replacement and charged me for shipping. I returned the Ifrogz to Bestbuy (didn't help with antenna issues).

I found a case that worked well with the Zagg and didn't tear the screen protector. I have been using the Incipio Silicrylic case since early July with my Zagg shield and they work perfectly together.

I had the same problem when I tried the ifrogz luxe on my i4 with zagg. I understand letting it cure for several days may help, but I believe as tight of a fit as it was it still would have peeled the screen shield up. I think the problem is that the front of the phone is all glass. On the 3g/3gs there was the chrome bezel which gave the case makers a small lip to work with. Zagg and I'm guessing the other shield makers are making their shields to fit the whole screen and there is no room for both.

Excellent point Maddison... however, with the first case (iFrogz Luxe) I had waited 56 hr's and after replacing the Shield a second time, waited 9-days when the AT&T guy inserted my iP4 onto the very nice Belkin case. (different style case when fitted to iP4)

I believe I mentioned my call w/iFrogz Cust Support and they acknowledged their Luxe case does pull the bottom corners off of the iP4's Shield and working on a retro-fit to correct this. They indicated the problem was the felt padding inside their Luxe case was too thick, causing a much tighter fit when sliding the iP4 into it... besides that, the Luxe case for the iP4 wraps around the "sides" more onto the iP4, encroaching more onto the top screen then its 3G/3GS Luxe predecessor did. I compared both Luxe cases as I have owned both.

Soxred,

Thanks for the tip on your case... I have my iFrogz "gift code" and awaiting the release of their retro-fitted case for the iP4 with Zagg Shield. If I am still waiting next week this time I will make the purchase of your recommendation. I've been very please with iFrogz response to the issue... whereas no other manufacturer has admitted to the issue, or indicated a need to correct it... which is understandable due to having to re-manufacturing something due to random screen protectors users may have.

I have had to replace my Zagg Shield x2 now, but I have the luxury of a local mall having a Zagg kiosk so I didn't have to pay a cent... although still a hassle of making the mall run and waiting for the drying/setting time.

I also love(d) my 3G Luxe case having had it on my previous iP3G for 2 yr's without issues despite having Zagg Shield on it... which is why I went with their iP4 Luxe case. An unfortunate issue but besides iFrogz claim that it is the internal felt padding on their case causing the problem... I also observed that the case itself wraps around the front of the iP4 more on this Luxe model, encroaching more onto the iP4's screen then their 3G/3GS Luxe case did. If they truly thin-out the internal padding then it will place less torque on the Zagg Shield when it slips on, negating the bottom corners peeling back. We'll see and I will report again here after it arrives.

Thanks again for your suggested case

Aug 9, 2010 8:44 AM in response to ironman1964

ironman1964, great observation... I personally believe there are a few variables coming into play... with the glass you mentioned being one and the chrome lip... although, having just looked at my teens 3GS, I noted the chrome lip your referring to, but there is still a small portion of the 3GS's screen which rises above the chrome which would be exposed to the sides of the Luxe case. All kinda mute when we compare against the new design of the iP4... so I am focused more on the glass top of the new iP4 screen as being incompatible with Zagg Shield? I must admit some ignorance here, but is the iP3(3GS) screen made up of a different material than the iP4? (non-glass vs glass??). If so, may be a whole other variable to consider why the Zagg Shield isn't adhering as well on the iP4, thereby not withstanding the slightest torque on its sides and corners??

The "tight fit" you refer to is due to the internal padding on the iFrogz Luxe case doesn't help... so hopefully their thinning it down will resolve the issue without compromising a snug enough fit in holding the phone in place.

The other observation I made was that the front side edges of the Luxe case "wraps around" more of the front edges of the iP4 then its 3G/GS predecessor Luxe case, which encroaches more on the Zagg Shield, causing its lower corners to catch and lift as you slide the iP4 into the lower section... likewise the top section of the iFrogz case doing the same when you slide it onto the iP4.

I have my iFrogz "gift code" and just waiting for their newly released retro-fitted case. I will report again as soon as I receive it. Thanks for replying back

Did you have to return the defective product to iFrogz? I'm having this issue, along with flash glare problems. When I sent them an email, they told me to bring it back to the place of purchase, or they can give me a gift code (which I'll need to return my defective item to get). Replacing at the place of purchase isn't much of an option because they don't have the new modified ones. Sending the defective one back isn't a great option to me either because i don't want to leave my phone unprotected.

Hi Irish (and anyone else willing to listen...
It is not my intent to sway anyone away from their favorite case and shield combo but I will say this; I have a Zagg shield on my ip4 and then wrapped it all up with the Otterbox Defender which has its own screen protector built in. No issues whatsoever and double screen protection since the defender was an afterthought upon release. I had tried a few different 'edge' cases on my 3gs and had always noticed that the screen protectors would lift at the corners simply due to the fact that they were in fact held on at the edges. I don't know if everyone is willing to drop fifty bucks on a case but I won't go back. I do thin it's great that iFrogs and invisi are willing to admit the issue and offer a replacement type thing. Bummer about Belkin though...

I'm listening... and while I prefer the iFrogz there are many times I just drop it in my pant pocket by its self as I have been awtg release of new iFrogz Luxe. Speaking of which, I just learned today that they are already shipping new iP4 cases to Best Buy's as major and favored biz partners... Not making me feel special having to wait an additional week to see mine thru their online store.

Back to your case, the screen protector you have, is it built into the case, or attached to iP4 itself? If its a part of the case, then when one removes it from the case the glass screen etc is not protected... I ask because while I was at the Zagg kiosk waiting for my iP4 to be outfitted, a guy was coming up a few steps approaching the kiosk... tripped, and the iP4 he was hoping to have 'protected' crashed to the tile-floor and cracked his unprotected screen in half... ouch!!! isolated case, but "stuff" happens, right

Aug 12, 2010 11:48 AM in response to Irish2DaBone

I have a zagg directly on the screen itself. I put it on there the minute I found out I would be carrying around a glass phone. The defender has it's own built in clear shield to keep dust etc. out. I was being lazy the day of installation so I left the zagg on and just put the phone in the otterbox. I have seen no downside as of yet. screen sensitivity seems unimpaired by 2 screen protectors and I'm still convinced that there is no better protection for my phone than the Otterbox. I like the combo myself.

Aug 12, 2010 11:51 AM in response to geforcer

geforcer, you didn't mention where you bought your iFrogz Luxe case from?? I bought mine from AT&T store... as with my Belkin case. AT&T replaced them both, refunding me on both.

Re: iFrogz Gift Code, I just ping'd them today and heard that they are already shipping retro fitted iP4 Luxe case to Best Buy's... and those of us with Gift Codes may see cases on their website next week. This due to their contract agreements to their major distributor's, etc. No, I did not feel the love at that point!!! So I asked them about being able to apply the Gift Code at a Best Buy, etc., still awtg word back
