Scanning issue with Canon printer
I have a Canon TS9520 hooked to my Mac via cable. Mojave does not recognize the device no matter how I try to select it. Is there a workaround? Will upgrading the system solve the issue?

Apple's built-in AirPrint supports this device without any Canon software or drivers, provided you are using it via Wi-Fi, or Ethernet. That vendor independence may appeal to you. AirPrint does not support USB connections unless connected to a small number of supported print servers.
Provided you have the device networked and powered, visit System Preferences > Printers & Scanners panel. If the device is shown in Printers, right-click on that icon and select Reset printing system… Or, if not present, click the [+] button to add it. In either case, a panel will appear where Apple's Bonjour discovered the network device, and you can choose Use: AirPrint rather than Canon drivers. Click Add. You should be able to print, and scanning is supported via Apple's Image Capture.

Can you print to the TS9520 using AirPrint? There may be a specific TS9520 scanner setup on that Printers & Scanners panel that informs it you are using Apple's Image Capture application.
I disconnected the USP cable and tried following your steps. I updated the Canon software. I made sure the computer sees it and shows Airprint. But when I try to use the scanner I get the message "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner (-9923)." I can't get the scanner to respond even by using the front panel.
Thank you very much for your help. I am giving up on it. I can't see any way to change the inner settings of my scanner, and it wants nothing to do with my Mac. If I learn anything new that helps, I'll share it here. Otherwise, I'll have to shop for a new scanner from a more user-friendly company before my next scanning job. Thanks again and God bless.
