Cancelled call

I tried calling someone and they did not pick up. The call did not go to voicemail and it just rang and rang until eventually it stopped ringing. On my call log this then showed as a cancelled call but I did not cancel it, it just rung out. Why is this?

Your call did not go to voicemail because that person did not turn on the voicemail. After about 12 - > 14 rings, the connection is automatically disconnected.

The computer at the carrier's exchange cannot know why no active call was made, not picked up, did not go to voicemail or canceled by yourself, it doesn't matter. And that call is showed as a cancelled call.
