I'm having trouble connecting my iphone 12 to my car's sound system. I use a lightning cable to connect it but when I plug it in, it only acts as a charger, the music comes out of my phone speakers. It works on other phones, just not mine so I know it's something wrong with my phone.

The root cause is that the iPod interface in your car, that allowed you to connect an iPod to your head unit to play music is so far out of sync with the iPhone that it's no longer compatible.
This was bound to happen sooner or later as auto manufacturers rarely if ever update their systems, especially systems so old as to not have bluetooth audio streaming built in.
Many people are saying it has to do with ios 15!!!! Same thing happening to me
That's what I thought too but my friends iphone also has the new update and can connect just fine
