Now both new and old MacBook say Authentication failed

Migration Assistant says Authentication Failed on old and new MacBook Air.

They are on same network, but old MacBook has fried Wi-fi card, so using Ethernet and direct USB transfer cord to new MacBook Port

It is not working

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3

If we understand correctly, there is trouble using Migration Assistant to transfer data to the new MacBook. We would recommend you use these articles for more information.


Are the two computers connected to each other directly using an ethernet cable?

Are you able to create a Time Machine backup of the old MacBook, you can then restore the new computer using that backup?


"Connect the two computers with a cable (such as Ethernet or Thunderbolt)"

Transfer your information to Mac from another computer or device



Move your content to a new Mac
