Battery drain from home kit

Since IOS 15 update I have been experiencing excessive battery drain from the home accessories on my IPhone. It is using ~50% of my battery life with background use. I “deleted” it, but obviously it’s still there, because I see it on my battery screen. What can I do?

Hello Applegrl2021,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're sorry to see that you're experiencing unexpected battery drain, and we're here for you.

First, when you deleted the app, did you delete the Home app itself by taking the steps below? We ask to be sure of the steps you've taken. Keep in mind that deleting the Home app will also delete locally-stored data.

Remove apps from iPhone

If you've deleted Home, then try restarting your device and giving it 24 hours since deleting it. These steps can help clear any residual cache.

Restart your iPhone

From there, we suggest taking these additional steps to help maximize battery life:

Maximizing Battery Life and Lifespan

Applegrl2021,

Thanks for getting back in touch with us after reviewing the steps we shared above. That additional screenshot is also helpful.

To be sure, are you tapping on Settings > General > Background App Refresh, to turn off background app activity for app apps? The steps in the section "Use Background App Refresh" in this resource has a visual guide:

Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If so and this concern still isn't resolved, our resolution is to contact Apple Support directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here:
