Watch to phone backup/restore
Activity data like Awards were part of data backed up to iCloud but didn’t get restored back to watch when upgrading to new phone. Bummer! This problem has been present as early as iOS 12!

Thanks for responding! I had, indeed, backed up everything to the cloud, and did restore from the backup.
As it turned out, the real problem was my own impatience: knowing that it takes a while for all of the apps to go through the "waiting-downloading" steps, I assumed that when the "Fitness" icon was complete, that meant that all the associated data was also complete. MY ERROR. The associated Awards and Challenges badges showed up about a day later. They were up there in the cloud all the time, just waiting for more important data to download first.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you've transferred your data to a new iPhone but it didn't include your Activity data, and we'd like to assist. It appears you've come from a helpful article:
Did you unpair your watch from your old iPhone, then create an iCloud backup, and then use the iCloud backup to restore your new iPhone? This would be the best way to ensure you have the latest data backed up. Are you missing all of the Activity data or just the most recent?
