cannot update iphone

I have an iphone 6 plus which has an. operating system of 12.5.5 and cannot update it to a newer more recent operating system. I have tried changing this through my Mac laptop but to no avail.

iPhone 6s, iOS 13

Hello ~ You do need a newer iPhone in order to update past the version of iOS you have now. Go to upper black line and click on iPhone to see your choices and if you look into a second hand device please take a moment to read this information :
