Lost Mac Contacts and smart lists?

I have tried turning Contacts on and off in settings. It asks if I want contacts merged with iCloud. I said yes. I still have no contacts in my laptop contacts and a version of my contacts on my phone - though the version on my home is extremely incomplete.

I use MacBook Air, iPhone, and a Mac. They all say something different and none is complete.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

Hello lbellingham,

We understand that there are some concerns regarding your contacts and syncing those across your devices. We're happy to offer some suggestions and steps that may help.

To begin, it's a good idea to confirm which contacts are currently stored in iCloud. The best way to do this is via Use Contacts on iCloud.com. The contacts displayed there would be the ones expected to sync across your devices. It's also important to note that if you have set up iCloud contacts on a device, any changes including deletions would be synced across the other devices also using iCloud contacts. Set up and use iCloud Contacts contains the steps to ensure this service is active on all of your devices.

As none of your lists are complete, it's possible that your contacts were tied to another service such as an email account. Removing an email account which was used for contacts would also remove those contacts.

Finally, check out If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud for a possible solution if those contacts were deleted in iCloud. If you need further assistance, use the link at the bottom of that article to contact our support to investigate possible solutions.

Cheers!
