Apple TV on PS5 won’t start

I signed up for Apple TV on the PS5, it was working fine until an update about a week ago and now it won’t start. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still nothing. I even factory reset my ps5 and it still won’t work. All it says was there is a problem with the app, then it closes and sends report to PlayStation. I have a Samsung tv but it doesn’t support the apple tv app, I have a roku stick but it doesn’t support the Apple TV app. I don’t really want to go out and buy yet another device just to watch Apple TV, hoping I can fix this on my PS5, any ideas???

To add to this, I’ve now found that I’m able to consistently launch Apple TV ONLY AFTER I launch Apple Music first. I haven’t even used Apple Music yet.

Once Apple Music loads, I go back to the Home Screen and Apple TV opens and plays content just fine. Haven’t tried it through the app switcher yet.

I’ve reported this in the PS5 crash report.

I have a trial subscription to both, so I haven’t confirmed if this works launching Apple Music if you’re not logged into it

I managed to start the app, not sure how long it will last. This is what occurred:

  • downloaded the app on 25 Nov Australian time
  • attempted to start the app, crashed during splash screen, sent the report to Sony
  • attempted to start the app again, another crash and sent the report
  • shutdown the PS5 (not rest mode but “turn off PS5”)
  • booted the PS5 using my DualSense controller
  • started Apple TV app and was able to sign in, redeem the free 6 months Apple TV+ and resuming watching an episode of See

I have the exact same problem. I am using my PS5 to watch Apple TV, but a few weeks ago there was an Apple TV update to the PS5 app and since then I cannot use Apple TV. It crashes at the loading screen. I tried removing and then reinstalling the app. I suggest you (Apple) contact Sony as it seems clear this is a bug you introduced on your side and needs a fix as soon as possible.

jmmail4me, if you have a solution can you please post it here.

Thanks.

Update: I contacted Apple support and there was nothing they could do from there side since the app won’t even start. They actually got me connected to Sony which was really helpful, I didn’t have to go through and figure out how to open a Sony PlayStation ticket. Sony suggested the same thing we already tried, resetting and rebuilding the database. After that there wasn’t anything they could do but send it over the information to backend support teams to track for future updates to the app. That was it, no one is getting back to me…. Just have to wait for them to figure it out and fix it in future updates. Also I asked if they could reset my free 6 month signup subscription but they told me I would have to through Apple support for that. Kind of disappointing, but they suggested that I use another device to watch Apple TV 😂.
