Let me test my understanding:

You want accent grave to be the keyboard shortcut that switches? Is that correct?

In my opinion, that would be a very bad choice, because it occurs as a valid character in many of the languages on the Mac.

But, when you add a second keyboard translation, you get an additional item on the list in the

System preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts ...

... named 'Input sources'. Select Input source from the list in the left column, and the default shortcut should be displayed. just add the shortcut of your choice and make it active, and it should do what you asked for.

It may not be possible to invoke a shortcut with the accent-grave alone. That key drifts around depending on keyboard translation selected. It may not be possible to create system shortcuts without any modifier keys: { control, command, option, shift }

This is the main article on that subject:

Macintosh computers are able to switch languages readily by substituting a different keyboard translation for the one you are currently using. In some keyboard translations, accent grave placed on a more readily-accessible key for your convenience.

What language do you wish to type in? are you already taking advantage of the keyboard translation for that language?

Yes, you're right. I want it in that way with your cautions about valid character.

But when I went to "Select the previous input source" and tried changing, I can't use only a grave accent to change the language. It seems that I need to combine with one command button like COMMAND+Grave Accent or OPTION+Grave Accent. Do you have any clue on that?

Noted that I just updated OS to Monterey

No. But between English and Thai you can also use Caps Lock or Fn (if your OS is recent enough). Apple these days normally uses Control Space instead of Command Space.

My understanding is that Windows normally uses Alt Shift or Windows Space to switch layouts (instead of the grave accent you mention).

I don't think it's possible to use a single character to do this kind of thing.
