Find my phone app on watch (series 2) only allows me to search for people, not devices. Suggestions?

Find my device app on phone only searches for friends. Don't want to purchase an app (not cheap, just don't see need to purchase an app for this function) since it seems obvious the app that came with the phone should be able to find my phone. Any suggestions?
