yet when I drag a PDF from my desktop into a blank Safari tab, it is not displayed and instead the window says "Safari can't open the page"

I don't see why it should make a difference. Either "Safari has a built-in PDF reader that automatically displays PDF documents right in the browser window" or it doesn't.


Chrome opens PDFs in the browser window and gives you an option to download it. Safari just downloads a PDF without opening in the window first. Is there some way to change that?
