Safari gives error 500 when opening Google Search page

About a month ago, Safari started giving me an Error 500 whenever I opened a new browser window. The problem is that Google.com is my default "HomePage". I have tried changing the address to https. I have tried changing the default page to another page and then back again. I have tried clearing cookies and cache. This problem does not exist in FireFox or Chrome.

I can go to Google Apps, drive, mail, etc. But not back to http://Google.com. If I type in search request into the bar, that works fine. Google gives me the results as expected.

Hey hamellr,

It sounds like you're having some trouble accessing the Google homepage.

Check for an extension that could be interfering with the homepage loading. Go to Safari > Preferences, then click Extensions. Deselect the extension’s checkbox to remove it. Restart Safari then see if that resolves the issue. Here's some more information about managing Safari extensions: Get extensions to customize Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

Also try clearing the website history to see if that helps, which is a little different than clearing the cookies and cache: Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac - Apple Support
