Safari doesn't open links -> opens "start page"

Often, not always, when I try to follow a link to new Tab the tab shows the name of the page it is opening, but changes to Starting page before opening. This is new and started after Monterey update.

This is super annoying and messes up my work.

What is going on? Any ideas?

Thanks,

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Check in Safari Preferences >> General and look how it is configured for

1 - New Tabs Open with ***

2 - New Windows Open with ***

This is very useful and fixed my problem when I changed it to "empty page", but this has to be a bug... If the user opens a link to a new tab they expect to open the link AND NOT to open the start page. This also happens when I click links that open to new tab. That setting shouldn't affect this. I hope Apple fixes this since I'd like to open NEW tabs with start page actually...

Thanks for the reply though.
