M1 Macbook Air 2020 Screen Issue

Posted to Reddit as well.

I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this: the screen has what looks like smudges or even water damage on it that worsen over time even if you take care not to touch the screen, and they cannot be removed with a cloth.

I purchased this model refurbished from the Apple Store. Right out of the box, it had smudges all over the edge of the screen and webcam. I immediately returned it because I feared it was water damage, and was sent a new one. This one had no smudges at first, but after less than a day of use, I noticed they started appearing. They appear over the webcam and all along the left side of the screen at first and eventually spread to the whole outer edge of the screen (which is why I was convinced it was water damage).

I contacted Apple Support twice and was told they don't have any documented cases of this model

having screen issues. Yet a quick google search and look through these forums disproves that; I've seen people suggesting it might be an issue with the anti-glare coating, others say their screens are spontaneously cracking, and a myriad of other issues with the screen.

I live very far away from an Apple Store and I'm eventually going to take it in, but I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this specific issue with the screen and what you did to resolve it, or if it didn't get resolved.

I'm not tech savvy and this is my first Macbook.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6
