Migration moved everything from my old Mac to my new one except photos and albums. How do I move them?

I did a migration from an old mac to a new one. Everything transfered except the photo library and all the albums. I was able to fumble around and transfer the library using an external drive but the albums will not move unless unless I copy one at a time. I connected the two macs through the same network and went through all the migration steps trying to transfer just the album files. It looked like it might work until everything stopped when the receive Mac started looking for files to transfer. After 2 hours of nothing I gave up.

Do you use photos in iCloud? If so, enable iCloud photos on both devices and your library will sync. Open photos > preferences > iCloud. You'll need enough space in iCloud and if you haven't been syncing the initial transfer can take days.

Alternatively, copy your photo library file to an external drive. (it should be in your Pictures folder in your user folder. This file can be quite large (mine is 200 GB+). Once transferred you can open the library on your new Mac. If it wasn't converted from iPhoto to Photos you can do that when the file is opened the first time.
