Forgot Mac password

Unable to access my account on my Mac. I did NOT change the password but it’s not working with any that I can think of. Tried to reset with my Apple ID, but then it prompts me to create a new keychain and restart my computer. I clicked OK and proceeded but then it wanted an administrator name and password. I also do not know what that is. If I knew the password I wouldn’t be in this predicament. So therefore I can’t even reset with my Apple ID on my MacBook because I can’t restart my computer. Trying to figure out what to do
