iphoto needs to be updated
what do I do? Where do I go? I am missing something here!

Photos replaced iPhoto a few generations ago.
Photos can convert your iPhoto Library. Launch Photos with the option key held down. Select your iPhoto Library. Photos will create a new library from your iPhoto media. The original iPhoto library will not be changed.
