Change MacOS Monterey Login Screen Wallpaper

How do you actually change the wallpaper for the login screen on MacOS Monterey?

I don't like the default purple wallpaper and I can't seem to find any way to change it. I know how you change the desktop wallpaper in the System Preferences, but there doesn't seem to be any way to change the lock screen/ login screen wallpaper.

Has anyone found any workarounds for Monterey?

Many Thanks

if you are the sole user (not even a guest account) AND file vault is turned off you can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options and set "Display login window as" to "List of users". then your login screen matches your desktop background.

if you are using file vault or have multiple users, the above will not work.  if that's your situation, you will need to wait for apple to address this. it may be worth your time to send feedback directly to apple. Feedback - macOS - Apple

Hi - I'm running Monterrey 12.3.1, and it's working. I suggest that you check the filename on the png's that you place in the Library, and make sure that you're using png's; for sure, it won't work with jpg's. I placed my png's in multiple locations, just to make sure I hit one that would work - see above for how I did it. It's a silly solution, I suppose, but at least I'm rid of the annoying default image. Good luck!

it's not the login screen that makes problems - it's that ugly startscreen called Chroma Red.heic:

i 've never had chosen it.

wich is not in Macintosh HD/Library/Caches/Desktop Pictures/ - here are the lockscreens, wich I can

change easily by only change the desktop pictures of every user.

the start screen is placed in

Macintosh HD/System//Library/Desktop Pictures/Chroma Red.heic

there are no user ID named folders and the files can't be changed in any way (system area)

Following all advice this thread did not produce any solutions. Spoke with Apple Support. Confirmed that the functionality is specific not the OS but the specific machine. e.g.

On some Mac models, the default desktop picture and login window background are based on the color or finish of the Mac. For example, the default desktop picture on a Space Gray MacBook Pro (2021) is "Chroma Red", and the default desktop picture on a Blue iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021) is "Hello Blue".
