IPhone Maps Navigation Voice Volume

You can change the volume with the volume controls. The only thing they removed was the arbitrary selections of low, normal, and high. You just adjust the volume with the volume control on the iPhone, or if you have it connected to the vehicle, the volume control there.

You are correct that those steps change the volume of the navigation.

Then, when I start music, the navigation goes back to its original, low level, too low to be heard over the music.

The missing setting used to be able to solve this problem. Now we’re just screwed.

I have never / will never use Siri. Guess I could try enabling it briefly just for this, but how stupid is that?

IOS 15 has been nothing but hot garbage on my iPhone 8.

You have to do this while you are in Maps with turn by turn navigation running. Make sure in Settings>Sounds & Haptics that you have Change with Buttons turned on, and you do not have anything else running with sounds.

I just checked this on my iPhone. It sounds like you are referring to it while connected to Bluetooth in your car, since you are trying to adjust it with the radio control, not the iPhone itself. Is that correct?

Are you using music on the phone, or from the vehicle? There used to be a setting about pausing music or other audio for directions. Now the setting only says Podcasts. If you go to Settings>Maps>Spoken Directions, have you tried using the setting for Directions Pause Podcasts to see if that brings down the sound of music when Maps tries to speak a direction? When I use my iPhone for directions, I do not use Music from my phone, I use my vehicle. I can try testing this tomorrow to see what type of result I get. I also know that iOS 15.1.1 has added a switch for Directions on Radio, so you can have the directions spoken on the iPhone instead of on the car radio if you wish.

Yes, that setting is active. It reduces the volume of the music but then mumbles over it. This used to be configurable but it’s not anymore.

I’m using iPod integration (USB cable to car).

We just did a 4 hour roadtrip with my copilot relaying the directions to me. This piece of junk is useless as-is.

Chris, this does not work. It affects the volume of everything. The problem is that the navigation voice is much quieter than the music. Turning up both isn’t a solution.

Hello estra403, You might try using Siri by Saying “Hey Siri Speak Louder”. It worked fir me.
