Two-factor authentication is enabled by default on new Apple IDs and cannot be turned off.

If you have an old account (several years old) and recently activated Two Factor Authentication note this section of an Apple support article:

"Two-factor authentication for Apple ID" - https://support.apple.com/HT204915

-->

"Can I turn off two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?

... If you recently updated your account, you can unenroll within two weeks of enrollment. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings ..."

Thanks for the informations.

The thing is I do not remember enabling this two factor authentication so it might has been enabled by default since I use the same apple ID on my iPhone and macbook.

My account is an old one, so I looked in my emails but I didn't find the confirmation email. So unfortunately I might not be able to turn it off.

Apple is "encouraging" users to sign up for it. You have to be awake when signing in to use their services because you have to run a gauntlet of messages that will get you signed up if you just blindly click your way through them. I get two screens repeating the message to sign up whenever I log in to use this forum site. You have to very carefully read and understand what each button does or else you sign up for it.

Is there a difference between Two Factor Authentication and Two Step? That’s news to me!

and also, I apologize, I should have read the article before sending it. I just looked at the title, and that’s it. Thanks for the lesson! And I’m sure having me read it BEFORE sending it in the future will surely help me provide better assistance. Thanks, and good luck!

There's several ways to get a code. Just have several ways:

To see how to 'Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication', click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT204974

- Use a Trusted Device: Mac, iPhone, iPad, Watch. Code is either generated automatically or manually using Settings on the Trusted Device.

- Text or phone call to a trusted telephone number (any telephone; even landlines).

- Get a code from an Account Recovery Contact --> https://support.apple.com/HT212513

- Instructions at the end about what to do if you cannot get a code and need to use account recovery.

Exactly.

Actually I appreciate an extra security in my devices, but I'm just concerned if ever my macbook stopped working and I changed my iPhone, I'm afraid I can't log in my iCloud because they will send me the verification code and I wouldn't be able to get it.

After I read this article I guess that you can get the verification code by message to your phone number so that would be helpful in case the trusted devices are not handy.

Thank you
