I bought a 256GB Micro SdXC card with standard adapter but it won't allow me to store files

I bought a 256GB Micro SDXC card with standard adapter but it won't allow me to store files as it does not recognize it. Is there an over ride or something I can fix?

How are you trying to read it? I regularly faced this with cards and flash drives; that's the main reason I stopped using them in favor of portable SSDs. More expensive, but far less hassle.

I've found that if I wiggled the card and/or reseat it enough it'd become readable. Super low-tech method there, but that's what I used to do.

To re-emphasize what has already been stated:

The instruction for installing Monterey suggest that a Trusted Backup is required.

This means a local, disk-based backup on a regular drive, not just files placed on SD cards, with are considered "temporary" or "convenience" storage -- not backup copies.

it should tell you something about the permanence of SD card storage when you have to "fiddle with it" just to get it to go the first time.
