Stuck in recovery mode during update of ios 15.1.1

Yesterday, I updated my iphone 12 pro max to ios 15.1.1. During the update, it went to this screen "support.apple.com/iphone/restore". I contacted support and been back and forth with them for 3 hours to resolve this and nothing happened. We always stuck at the error 9 code. They told me to go to the apple store. The apple store tech check my phone and got the same error. He said that it is a hardware problem and the software update was not the cause of this error. He offered me $599 to repair the phone or to get a new one, since I'm 8 days out of warranty and doesn't have an applecare. I asked him why I'm going to pay $599, if my phone is working fine before the update. He said that he cannot do anything about it because this is the first time he heard such an issue. I'd like everyone to be aware of this issue. In case any of you have experienced the same thing, I appreciate if you could reply to this message. Thank you.

i'm sorry to hear that you are about to lose all of your daughter's precious pictures. No, I cannot get it to work. All of my files and yes, all of my precious pictures were gone. Lessons learned to back my iphone every time I will make a software update. The only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard. The cost is $599, which is basically about the same price of a new iphone. Did apple say that they can create a back up of your phone before erasing all the files in it? I hope that they can create a back up so that you can recover your daughter's pictures.

Updating iOS or iPadOS via a Mac or PC means an automatic backup to the computer before the update installs. That’s one reason why many recommend that over a direct update via Wi-Fi.

Did you ever get it to work? I am in the same boat. I was told it was caused by lack of storage space. Apple store told me they would have to erase everything on my phone. I am having a hard time understanding why I am about to lose my daughters entire 1st year of pictures, because of an update.

Did you have it backed up? However, your issue doesn't appear to be the same as the previous ones, where they were told it was a hardware problem and not simply lack of available storage corrupting the installation.

If you're running really close to it being full, it might make more sense to use a computer to update. It requires less free space on an iPhone (uses the computer to unpack a lot of the package), always performs a backup first, and installs a full package rather than trying to stitch an incremental update into the existing iOS installation.

I didn’t have it backed up. I have been trying to update on computer for 3 days now. Only once it started doing the update then got stuck on loading bar. Have not gotten to that point again.

If you tried doing it on a computer, I don't believe there's any way to update Finder or iTunes without (iTunes or Finder) performing a backup first before starting the update process. Do you have a way of finding out if you have a backup? Not sure about iTunes, but with Finder on a Mac it needs a device connected in order to get to "Manage Backups".

yes, my phone just happened the same as you last week, brought to apple service centre alse failed to restore my 12 pro max. It was working perfectly fine before the update. What on earth an software update can caused the hardware problem. This is ridiculous in view of the phone just 1 year old, this is gonna be my 1st and last Iphone after previously switched from Samsung.
