How do you close running in the background on an IPad
iPad Air, iOS 12
For the most part, force closing an App serves no tangible benefit. Most non-foreground Apps will enter a dormant/suspended state in which they consume almost no system resources. Apps can resume from their suspended state instantly when required.
Apps that have been closed must be completely reinitialised and reloaded when launched afresh, consuming more system resources and battery power than would otherwise be the case. Resuming from a suspended/saved state is considerably more power and system efficient.
If Apps are misbehaving, it is then sensible to force-close the App using the App Switcher. To do so, swipe upwards from the bottom edge to the centre of the screen - and pause briefly before lifting your finger from the screen. This will open the App Switcher - which will show a thumbnail image of all “open” Apps. Simply swipe the App(s) that you wish to close off the top of the screen.
