M1 Max MacBook Pro and CalDigit TS3 Plus... sound through DisplayPort is not working properly

I've got a 2021 MacBook Pro with the M1 Max and I have it plugged into a CalDigit TS3 Plus via Thunderbolt and then an 1/8" audio cable going from my display to my speakers... every other device running through the display (including my 2019 MBP) works perfectly except the M1 Max MBP... the audio on there is either mostly silence with occasional random bits of sound and pops and clicks... I spoke to CalDigit's support and they're suspecting it's an audio rate or codec issue with the M1 Max MBP over DisplayPort and are going to contact Apple after some testing on their end... my question here is: by chance is anyone else running a similar audio setup through a TS3 Plus (or similar Thunderbolt hub using DisplayPort audio) having a similar issue?

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)
