Email Recipients Don't See Chosen Font - Just Plain Text

I compose emails for my senior citizen friends (like me) in Apple Mail using a Verdana 36 font so it's easier for them to read. When my email arrives in their inboxes, however, it appears as as a fixed-width font that looks like Courier 14 or Courier 12. I've triple checked my Apple Mail preferences. COMPOSING --> MESSAGE FORMAT is set to "Rich Text". FONTS AND COLORS --> MESSAGE FONT is set to Verdana 36. Everything is set to default.

The attached "send" and "receive" images are of messages composed in Apple Mail 15.0 and received on another MAC also using Mail 15.0, but this issue occurs with all recipients no matter what the operating system.

An added twist: when I compose an email on the iCloud web site in Verdana 36 it transmits normally and the recipient sees it in Verdana 36.

Any thoughts from the community?

Mail cannot set a default outgoing font and size, despite the impression that these preferences settings may give. To have your mail seen in Verdana 36 at the other end, you must set it that way in the New Message pane for each outgoing individually.

Also you may need to set your preference message font to something other than Verdana 36 (not sure if that is still required).

People who need to set a default outgoing font often use a different email app, like Outlook.

Just to confirm that experiments with 813Beech show that to have your font and size be incorporated in an outgoing email's code, so that recipients using Apple Mail will see them, you have to set these in the New Message pane for each outgoing individually, and your choice has to have a different name and size than what you have set in Mail > Preferences > Fonts > Message Font.

(Why Apple continues to have Mail operate in this cumbersome way I have no idea)

Because that is how it is. Maybe they changed a setting on their end. I'm sure you would not want others to control the font and format of your emails. If formatting is important, use a word processor and save your message as pdf format then attach the pdf document to your email. Your font and format will be preserved and the recipient will see the font and format you send.

The format of received email is under the control of the recipient. It does not matter how you format your email.

That is not true for anyone who is using Mail app. Such a recipient has no control over how rich text email will be seen, it will display the font chosen by the sender. They only have control over plain text emails. Recipients using Outlook and some other email apps have the option of converting all incomings to plain text, but Apple has yet to provide this for Maiil.

Mail app's behavior has not changed as far as I know, it has always been necessary to set the font in each outgoing individually. Try sending me a message in your large font when you do it that way

Then why does the same recipient reading email with Apple Mail see my message composed in Verdana 36 in a small fixed-width font but in Verdana 36 when I compose the email using Mail on iCloud.com. This is a new issue. For years, my emails composed in large type on Apple Mail arrived at recipients looking the same. Now, all my recipients are seeing my emails only in small, fixed-width typeface.
