why are mac books used in school and at home

I use a MacBook Pro because it allows me to be in the same room with my Wife (also using a Macbook Pro).
Before she would be in her office on her desktop computer, and I would be in my office on my desktop computer. I would rarely see my wife. We are both paid computer professionals, so working on computers pays the bills.
Then in 2000, I got my first Mac PowerBook and I was portable, and could sit anywhere I wanted, including in the same room with my wife. Eventually my Wife got a Mac laptop and we could sit in the living room, watch TV, etc... together.
Also as bonus, in those days, the laptop actually kept your legs warm in the winter, so I no longer went to bed with killer cold feet 🥶
Also my choice of a Mac in 1988 was because as a computer professional, I spend all day long making other computers work, I did not want to do that at home as well. Between now and then, personal computers have come a long way, and there are many options for hassle free computer use. I just happen to be in the Apple ecosystem and enjoy it.
Why other people choose Macbook's can range from another family member suggested it, and would only help them if they got a Mac. Their friends have Macs. They were introduced to Macs at an early age. They got an iPod (or more recently an iPhone or iPad), and it was a gateway drug into the Apple ecosystem and owning a Mac.
The software they want to use runs best on a Mac (this is a real subset of users).
There are a lot of reasons.
When talking about a school board decision about a school wide Mac use, that is more along the lines of all the other answers already given.
If you are asking about your local school, you would best ask the local school board, or some of the other parents and teachers, as some of them may know the reason better than we would.
