I do not see any input until I enter/finish the calculation... in the macOS Monterey 12.0.1
if this is not what you are used to then something has changed or there is a bug—
"To show a running list of your calculations, choose Window > Show Paper Tape."

there is no standalone Calculator.app it is baked into the macOS.
- You can try shutting down and restarting
- You can try reinstalling the macOs on top of the macOS to sort anomalies
