alert messages for local host name and IP Address in use

Recently, I am getting one of two alert messages when I wake up my iMac mid-2011 running High Sierra 10.13.6

Most often I get this alert

and this morning I got this alert

I would like to know if this is a setup problem that I need to address and if so, how do I do that?

I appreciate any help you can give me,

Michelle

The Mac will need and will get an IP address on every network it’s connected to, which is both wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi. And it would appear the router is using the same IP subnet for both wired and Wi-Fi networks, which doesn’t work so well for this particular case. Probably easiest to disconnect the wired Ethernet connection and use Wi-Fi, here. Otherwise, you’re going to be learning a little more about your router, and more about how to configure IP addresses, and I’d guess that mDNS/Bonjour will still grumble. As mentioned above, IP addresses need to be unique, absent some fanciness.

Thank you Mr Hoffman,

I use Xfinity as my cable and internet provider. So I have a modem with a direct ethernet cable going from it to my iMac. I have a wireless network set up so my iPhone, etc, can all access my home network. I just checked and I see that I have the wireless on my iMac turned on. I think I got confused thinking I needed to do that for my various devices to be seen. Now I am guessing that the iMac may be 'resetting' it's IP address as it decides to connect wirelessly instead of using the ethernet connection.

If I turn off the wireless on my iMac, can you tell me how I can look at what devices are using my network when I want to check?
