Trying to install Wacom driver and get error message "You are attempting to install an older version of the driver. Remove the current driver, and then try again".

I am trying to install a new Wacom driver. I keep getting the error message "You are attempting to install an older version of the driver. Remove the current driver, and then try again" despite having used software to uninstall the old driver. I can't find trace of anything left!

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

Look in the main Library and your user Library for something associated with Wacom in Application Support folder. Anything there would be configuration or user data files that are not normally removed. It may be seeing those and balking at the install.
