It's on your Apple ID, not any particular device as such.

Two-factor authentication is enabled by default on new Apple IDs and cannot be turned off.

If you have an old account (several years old) and recently activated Two Factor Authentication note this section of an Apple support article:

"Two-factor authentication for Apple ID" - https://support.apple.com/HT204915

-->

"Can I turn off two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?

... If you recently updated your account, you can unenroll within two weeks of enrollment. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings ..."

Hi, thanks for your answer I’ve done that and it says it’s on but there’s nowhere to edit it to turn it off…

The fact it does not show an option to turn it off is the very indication that your circumstances are such you cannot do so. Either your AppleID is new, since mandatory 2FA was enacted, or it’s an older AppleID with 2FA enabled for more than two weeks.

So you need to understand it, figure it out and live with it. It is not going away.

The article also says you can unenroll within two weeks if you just set it up which I literally just did a couple of days ago. It says to go to your enrollment confirmation email but I never received one. It did give me a verification code on my watch but I do not know where to enter it, crazy making! Thanks for your help and Happy Thanksgiving.

Read and study exactly what the document says in the section I quoted earlier. Study each word. It says if you upgraded in the past two weeks. If you created a new ID, you didn't upgrade. Upgrading is only possible if you have an old ID dating from before Two Factor. If you decide to turn it on, only then do you have the option to turn it off again. If you think this is the case with your account then check your Apple email addresses to make sure you are getting emails from Apple.
