Sound turns off on video replay

When I'm replaying video on my iPhoneX, the sound turns off every time I pause the video for more than a couple of seconds. I don't understand the purpose of this behavior. I'm reviewing a dance sequence that I'm going to perform. I look at a segment and take some notes. When I restart the video, I have to remember to turn the sound back on. When I don't, it wastes time.

How do I fix this?

I'm also curious what the use case is for the sound being constantly squelched. Pausing a video doesn't seem to convey that I want to watch it in silent mode.

Hi Michael,

From your post, it sounds like sound pauses when watching a video. Have you noticed any trends as to when the issue occurs? Does this happen with only that particular video or using a specific app?

Which iOS version is the iPhone running? If an update is needed let's go ahead and do that now: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Are you connected to a Bluetooth device or earphones when the issue occurs?

Can you elaborate on the other issue you mentioned about the case?

All the best.
