Google pop-up terms and conditions on safari

Using a new install of Safari when I try to google search for the first time the page just greys out. It the point when you usually see the terms and conditions pop-up and are required to agree before continuing, except I can't see any pop-up or agree button.

I've tried switching off pop-up blocker in Safari preferences but no change. Any ideas?

Greetings 7benw,

We're happy to help out today in Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you have a pop-up you aren’t able to get past when using Safari on your Mac. Which macOS version is installed? That’s found by going to Apple menu > About This Mac.

When you say a new version of Safari, do you mean you updated your macOS? We want to be sure we are understanding since that’s the only way to update Safari.

Since this is a message appearing that you can’t get rid of, take a look at Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams. It’s good to read the entire article, but in this case look at the section “If your web browser displays annoying pop-ups”.  If you don’t have Malwarebytes there is a free option available for Macs that will scan to see if you have anything infecting your compute now. Just scroll midway down to see the free version.

Reach back out if we can help further.

Have a great weekend!

7benw,

It’s good to know it works in all other browsers. Are you using Private Window when you open Google? Have you gone to Safari > Preferences and checked your settings? See Change Websites preferences in Safari on Mac for more details. If you have a Google account, have you signed into their webpage? Have you also checked the Google Help page to see if anyone has reported issues with macOS 10.12.6 with Safari?

We’ll be here if you still need us.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

Yes the issue is after a clean install of the OS by Apple Support. Sierra version 10.12.6.

I don't think it is a malware issue.

The pop-up in question is the Google Ts and Cs that you have to agree to before you can use Google search - image attached. I can see a cursor tooltip saying 'before you continue to use Google' but I can't actually see the Ts and Cs that usually pop-up in a separate box.

The issue is specific to Safari as it works as normal with other browsers (eg Opera).
