The iPhone 6s will support iOS 15.x. If you have not updated in a while, you will only be able to update to iOS 15.1, the current iOS. If you check to update the iPhone and it is on iOS 12.5.5 and says that it is current, then you don't have an iPhone 6s, you have an iPhone 6. Go to Settings>General>Software Update to check.
