I updated my IOS on Gen 4 - IPOD.. done ok. However, I also updated my I Tunes to latest version and now things are really messed up.
Can download music to I Tunes account library ok. But cannot transfer music to IPOD Touch play lists. It looks like songs move over to selected playlists but never do. Support was very kind and tried to help, but could not resolve. So, it is akin to buying upgraded versions of photo editing software and finding the new software is not compatible with your older PC.
When doing these upgrades, Apple should be kind enough to WARN people of older products, DO not download newer IOS or I Tunes on older products for fear of the outcome just like me. Although the IPOD is 4th Generation, it still works great, battery life is good, and I have a ton of music on this little player with Bluetooth....
So, beware before you upgrade IOS or download newest version of I Tunes -- it might mess things up terribly wrong like mine did. Can play my purchased music on my lap top, but try to take lap top to the gym? Nope not a good idea.... I think Apple should buy my older IPOD and put in museum... and send me a new one for this goof up...

Your post here in this thread is not relevant to lhquest's issue; they are two completely different problems, with two different causes.
I have responded to the discussion you started, so check it out and let's see if we can resolve your issue in that discussion.
By the way, you can rest assured that Niel has provided an accurate reply to lhquest.
You need to buy a seventh generation model. If you get a secondhand one, verify that it's not activation locked before giving the seller your money.
