iPad Minecraft controller: connected but not working Minecraft

I have a Steelseries Nimbus+ Controller. Works with other games. On iPad Minecraft, it does not appear to do anything even though it is connected.

What is the expected behavior? I presume it should just automatically work like it does for everything else. Is there something I have to do to enable the controller through Minecraft on the iPad? Or is something wrong with controller or Minecraft?

All suggestions are welcomed! My five-year-old is bugging me to death about this! 😂
