15" 2016 MBP Freezes with 10.14.6
Hi Apple Community:
I recently upgraded from 10.14.5 to 10.14.6. About a week or so after performing the install, my 15" 2016 MacBook Pro began to freeze - except for the cursor.
Here's the detail:
- Upon waking up the MBP from sleep mode, I sometimes find the MBP is not responsive except for the cursor. I can move the cursor around the screen, but, when I click on any object, the object is basically frozen - I tried clicking a file's window red close button, I tried to open a folder, I tried to restart or shut down the computer, etc - noting works.
- The sleep mode can be anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes or longer. I have not found any common timing issue.
- When I was working today (11/27/21), the MBP actually froze up while actively working on a file. The cursor was actually "stuck" on a file. I couldn't release the cursor from the file. I had to do a manual shut down using the on/off button.
- I use a 24" Apple Display and a 27" HP display - not at the same time.
- I use an OWC USB-C Dock.
- I also use the following Apple devices - Magic Pad (original battery type and newer internal battery type, not at the same time) and a new Magic Keyboard with internal battery.
- I also use a Wacom Bamboo CTE-450/K pad with included stylus.
- A long time ago, I signed up for the OS Beta program, although I no longer see the Beta Program listed when I go to Software Update in System Preferences.
I've searched in the Apply Community Forum and was not able to locate anything recent regarding freezing. I also tried to locate articles online and found simliar, but, not the issue I'm having.
My first thought was to upgrade to the current MacOS - that's what APple would suggest normally. I can't upgrade beyond Mojave becasue I am using PowerCADD, a 32 bit application. PC users are wating for the updated 64 bit version which is epected mid to late 2022.
My other thought was to perform a backup and perform a clean install hopefully bringing the OS back to 10.14.5. The only thing is, it's a pain to do and I most likely will not have the current security updates with 10.14.5.
Before I do anything as time consuming as a clean install, I'd like to know if anyone has had the same or similiar issue and has a solution.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks - Frank
