Sony DCR HC90 not importing video into iMovie on new iMac . . .

I have a new iMac and I'm trying to import video from my Sony DCR HC90 handycam. I have the correct 9-4pin Belkin firewire cord direct from the Apple store. Nothing seems to work. The iMac doesn't recognize a new device and the camcorder doesn't show "DV IN" on the screen to recognize the iMac. The camcorder still works with a PC. I had a 1.5 hour session with the Apple help desk and they were great, but still nothing works. Any suggestions?

IMac OSX, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I am by no means an expert in this matter but I would like to offer an idea.
As I understand, DV tape is transferred by firewire whilst memory card is by USB.
I do not think that you should have both - and perhaps you don't?
Try using the memory card only and connect via USB and see what happens, also whilst connected to power as suggested above.
