M1 MacBook Pro - Slow speed at external drive with random access

Hi,

got a MacBook Pro M1 Max since some weeks and there's an issue with external SSD drives (SATA, connected via USB-C, eFAT). If more than one process accesses the drive (write or read) the performance get bad. Example: Watching a video and copy data simultaneously. Randomly all involved programs freeze and after a couple of seconds everything works normal again. Benchmarks like AmorphusDiskMark show normal rates (490 read, 480 write), when executed without other programs accessing the external drive. The "old" 2019 MBP i9 had no such issues.

Do someone else have this problem too?

Ideas to solve it?

Thanks SnickZ.

Unfortunately there is nothing, that I do not tried before.

The issue can be forced by copying large amount of data (>10GB) from or to the external hard drive. The copy process pauses randomly and continues after a few seconds. The system works normal in the pause of the copy process. At another PC (Windows 11) the drive performs well.

I thought maybe it's the MacFUSE Software, that cause the problem, but it's still there after removing MacFUSE.

Any other ideas?
