Free CAD

There is an older thread, but can anyone recommend currently available free CAD for a basic 2D floor plan and similar please? I just need to be able to do rectangles with measurements, with simple symbols/features such as doors and windows. This is for a MacBook.

MacBook Pro 15 Retina Display - default thickness lines in cad look too thin Hello all I have a MacBookPro 15 (mid 2015 model with AMD graphics) reset & updated to Monterey. I use CAD programs like iCADMac. I had recently only purchased this. CAD is working fine. With model space background set to white, the default line thickness look so thin I feel hard to work with it. Same happens when visibility of line thickness is not enabled. All lines look so very thin on white background. This is not so with the purchased iCADMac alone. I installed trial versions of other CAD software for Mac. They too show very thin lines with white background when line thickness visibility is disabled. Usually most do not enable like thickness visibility doing regular routine day to day work. When the background is black, then it is fine. But to produce presentation drawings, one does use white background to see the colors as one would see on paper. This is because of Default Retina Resolution of 2880x1880. If the scaled resolution is used to reduce the resolution, programs do not behave well. Not only that, the working model space becomes much smaller because Menu & Toolbars take more space. I just wish to know if anybody who is a veteran in CAD in MacbookPro 15 agrees with me, or di he get used to this. OR, is there any other solution ?

Cad software I need to do a design outline for a steel fabricator. I was directed toward FreeCAD but can't verify that is is free of malware. Can someone please recommend a way forward; either to verify this software, or another program that would be suitable? Cheers MHS

FWIW, there is also QCAD which can be used for free or purchased with some additional features.

I don't use either but QCAD has support for M1 Macs.
