What does the volume is not mounted mean?

I am trying to download the new macOS Monterey and I get to the disk but it says, "the volume is not mounted". What does that mean?

Issues downloading MacOS Monterey Trying to download MacOS Monterey the status bar doesn't reach the end but it says that all the data is download. Every disk, including the digital disk the installer file resides on needs to mount before being read. You are downloading off the App Store?
